Before and after…
Queen Liberal Nancy Pelosi was on hand last night as Barry Bonds further tarnished major league baseball’s reputation. A fully ‘roided-up bonds finally broke Hank Aaron’s all-time home run record at 756 homers. Pelosi, a fellow San Fransiscan, hailed Bonds as an immortal:
“Tonight, Barry Bonds etched his name into baseball’s history books and took his rightful place among sport’s immortals,” Pelosi said. “It was a great night for baseball and a great night for San Francisco — the crowd went wild. It was particular exciting to see Willie Mays embrace him on the field and see Hank Aaron congragulate him on the Jumbotron. As a season ticket holder, I am particularly glad it happened on the Giants’ Italian night.”
Say what you will about liberals like Pelosi, but they have the uncanny knack to always find themselves on the wrong side of an issue. Contrast that with President Bush’s response to the record-breaking home run:
President George W. Bush didn’t watch and didn’t call, but the White House offered his congratulations for Barry Bonds’ record-breaking home run and also used the opportunity to condemn steroid use in sports.
Interesting dichotomy. Liberals stand for drug use and cheating. Conservatives stand for fair competition and soberness.

Wow, she just keeps digging herself a deeper hole. She hasn’t given her constituents anything they want yet and now she backs a juicer. Uggh!
Still, be aware that the title of your post is painting liberals with an awfully wide brush. I’m not sure it is causative that she is a liberal and thus backs Bonds or the other way around. I think her Bay Area background trumps her politics in this case. I certainly am liberal and think Barry Bonds is a jackass and I know many others who feel the same. It was incredibly stupid for her to say that politically though.
The title is intended to be a bit tongue-in-cheek. I think it’s amusing that the media makes everything about politics today – the MN bridge collapse, the UT mine disaster, etc. – I was just joining in the fun.
Conservative collectivists hate Bonds for the same reason liberal collectivists hate him — because he’s an achiever. You commies can’t stand when someone plays by the rules and succeeds — it reminds you of your own failure and inferiority.
Conservatives also like to convict people without a trial — as they have done with Mr. Bonds. Ever heard of the Constitution? Due process?
In your face: Bonds is the best ever. People are not all created equal — some are better than others and Bonds is better than you. Deal with it.
“Plays by the rules and succeeds” – ? Dude, the guy’s head is twice as big now as it was 20 years ago. That ain’t normal. This guy is the ultimate cheater. I guess it could be worse, though – he could be a Ron Paul supporter. If that were the case, there would be no way he’d get into the hall of fame.
I dislike Bonds (hate is such a strong word) for many reasons. Obviously, for tainting baseball and its most hollowed record regardless of being guilty or not. The fact is, he put himself in this situation by interacting with those who have provided steroids to other athletes. As pointed out by our esteemed blog owner, he has doubled in size over the past years, not to mention his ego.
There’s no question he is a great hitter. The hand-eye coordination cannot be synthetically produced via steroids. However, those opposite field homers would come so easily without that “clear gel” he rubbed on his leg. G.E. Smith: Bonds is not the best ever, A-Rod is…IN YOUR FACE!
“However, those opposite field homers WOULDN’T come so easily…”
Sorry, no edit feature.
I was listening to Dale Murphy on the radio this morning. He said that the general consensus is that without the steriods, Bonds would still have been great – but that his total HRs would have only been around 600 – way short of the record. I’m no A-Rod fan, but I really do hope he breaks the record to take it away from Bonds. It’ll be a while, though.
